Migrating from Confluence

By Docvora Assistant 2 mins 2

Docvora supports importing existing documentation from Confluence Cloud, allowing organisations to migrate their knowledge bases without manually recreating pages and content.

The migration process supports transferring Confluence spaces, including their page structure, formatting, images and attachments.

Existing content within Confluence is not modified during the migration.

Before Getting Started

To begin migrating from Confluence Cloud, the following information is required:

  • Confluence site URL: The address of the Confluence Cloud instance, such as your-team.atlassian.net.

  • Atlassian account email: The email address associated with an Atlassian account that has access to the spaces being migrated.

  • Atlassian API token: An API token generated through the Atlassian account to authorise access to the existing documentation.

The Atlassian account must have access to all spaces intended for migration. Read-only permissions are sufficient when generating a scoped API token.

Docvora only uses the provided API token for the migration process and does not store it.

Generating an Atlassian API Token

An API token is required to allow Docvora to access existing Confluence documentation.

  1. Visit Atlassian Account Management.

  2. Navigate to Security.

  3. Select API tokens.

  4. Create a new API token with the permissions required to read the Confluence content being migrated.

  5. Copy the generated token for use during the migration.

API tokens should be kept secure and should not be shared outside the migration process.

  3. Select Import from Confluence.

  4. Enter the Confluence site URL in the Confluence site field. The main site address or a copied link from the site can be used.

  5. Enter the email address associated with the Atlassian account.

  7. Select Find spaces to retrieve the available Confluence spaces.

The supplied Atlassian account must have permission to view the spaces intended for migration.

Supported Content

The Confluence migration tool supports importing the following content:

  • Page formatting

  • Images

  • Attachments

The migration process is designed to preserve the existing organisation and content of Confluence documentation when transferring it to Docvora.
