Table of Contents Block

The Table of Contents block creates a navigation list from headings already used on the page.

It updates automatically as page headings are added, removed or renamed.

Adding a table of contents

A Table of Contents block can be inserted from the editor toolbar or through the slash command menu.

More than one Table of Contents block can be added to the same page if required.

The block does not include its own title. A heading can be placed above it where a label such as "Table of Contents" is required.

How headings are detected

The Table of Contents block automatically detects heading levels H1 through H4.

All supported headings on the page are included. Individual headings cannot currently be excluded.

Heading levels are visually nested within the block, making the page structure easier to follow.

For example, an H3 heading under an H2 heading appears indented beneath it.

This is a sample section to display in the table of contents at the top of the page.

Heading links

Each item in the Table of Contents links directly to the corresponding heading.

Selecting an item moves to that section of the page and uses the heading anchor in the page URL.

The Table of Contents appears the same in the editor and on the published page, with the editor additionally showing an outline when the block is hovered.
